How was your Mother's Day weekend?!

I was pretty spoiled yesterday.... I woke up to breakfast cooked by my husband, went to church, and then headed to the zoo with the kids for the afternoon. It was so wonderful to see my little boy react to all the different animals. SO precious. I absolutely love being a mother. It has brought me the greatest joys in life! We finished the day with a little shopping and Margaritas and mexican food. You can say I was one exhausted but happy chica:) Just spending the day with my little family was all I wanted!

Meet IHOD Model: Sydney of The Daybook

I actually don't think most of you will need an introduction to Sydney:) She is the super funny and fabulous girl behind The Daybook Blog. I was lucky enough to snag her as a model for some of my fall and spring line of accessories before she got all big and famous;) I have had a blast keeping up with her and her blog since! In case you missed them on the fan page, these are some of the most recent accessories she has modeled for IHOD.  I think you would agree that she has an amazing ability to make just about anything look fashion forward!

Its an interesting weekend ahead for me....husband might be leaving town for the weekend for a retreat (like the one I went on) so I need baby to stay put till at least Sunday! ....I am thinking Monday would be a great day though for the baby to make a grand entrance, since that is the day I am dreaming of the UK Wildcats winning the NCAA Championship :D Hey, why not?! I am having all sorts of sporadic contractions...but that could last another week so we will see! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Meet Jenny May: IHOD Modelista

Meet Jenny May. She is a California girl, who married her Swedish sweetheart. She writes screenplays, has an incredible voice, and oh yeah.... she is my good friend from Freshmen Year in college:) We used to drag ourselves to 8am Political Science class with Dr. Krason. I don't know how we made it out with passing grades to be honest! Love this girl!... and so happy she agreed to model some IHOD accessories for me. A little more about Jenny....

I am heading out today to a 3 day spiritual retreat, where I get to do nothing but focus on prayer and peace. 30 women are gathering for inspirational talks, time to write and reflect, time for prayer, (and of course eating;) etc.....and ALL in complete silence! The last time I did one of these, it was life changing. How can it not be?! Silence is where God speaks. My hunk of a husband is going to hold down the fort and watch little G for me. I am looking forward to UNPLUGGING from the world and using the time to re-focus.

Believe me, when I found out that one of my designs would be featured in the Trend Section of Chicago Collections Magazine, I was amazed. When I found out I would be on the same page as Alexander McQueen??! ...I about fainted. To say this is humbling would be an understatement. I am so incredibly grateful for such an honor. 

How it happened: The "trend scout" for the magazine walked into Mr. & Mrs. Boutique in Chicago, where IHOD accessories are sold. She eyed the hair pins, snapped some shots, and decided they would be featured in the next issue! So, I owe a HIGE thank you to Emily, the manager of the fabulous boutique. (If you are in Chicago, check it out!!) Needless to say, the hair pins started to fly off the shelves. How fun! So now, I continue to dream big, and ask God to bless the small efforts and time I have for this business. He continues to amaze me...

Holiday Fair 2010 Recap

Here are a few snapshots of the Holiday Fair over the weekend. It was fun to meet some new people and see some returning customers as well!  Last year was a huge success, so I wasn't sure what to expect this year. Somehow, I doubled last years sales!! It feels wonderful to have your hard work paid off and to know your business is working. I had my amazing sister there to help all day. She also took these photos for me (you can see her in the mirror;) ) with her new fabulous camera. She is an incredible support to me and I am so grateful for her! Thank you Maria! There were many other talented vendors, and its always motivating to meet other small business owners!

Now...if only I could zap all of these into my shop. :) 

Top 3 Craft Fair Tips (Things I am learning):

1.) Have everything visibly priced. It helps as a consumer when you are considering your purchase. I also put a mirror in my station so people could try on items and decide how they looked.

2. Make the atmosphere reflect your business. I used paper signs with the same colors, fonts, and logo as my shop. It helps customers to connect if they have seen your products before.

3. Offer incentives. I offered facebook fans a special discount. I also held a gift card raffle for anyone who wanted to write down their name and phone #.

 Since I am starting a new year for my business/blog, its a great time to refresh! You will be seeing some fun new topics and posts as well as the start of sponsorship opportunites:) I will be continuing much of the same content such as artistry features and blogger interviews, etc. ... So I ask your opinion on what you would like to see even more of??? I appreciate each of you, and your opinion is important to me:)


1. Small businesses topics- behind the scenes tips, interviews, studio/office tours of sm. businesses.
2. Style Files and Style Layouts - Where to find affordable fashion, trend alerts, designer tips, etc.
3. Inspiration spotlights- motivating topics of inspiration whether it be a mommy blogger, budding entrepeneur, etc. Suggest your inspiration ideas!
4. More DIY's and tutorials- free printables and how-to's for home decor, crafts, etc.

CHEERS to 365 days of Adventure!

One year? Really?! Its been one year since I started my new adventure as a small business owner. My blog came just a week after! So its time to celebrate a few things:) What a snowball effect it has been this year.... I can only sit back and be amazed reflecting on how God can bless the smallest of efforts and allow them to surpass your wildest dreams! Moved from Atlanta to small town, KS and decided to keep the new beginnings going and start something new. I attended my first craft fair and started my etsy shop one week later!

I look at what was accomplished this year and thank God for allowing me to do something I love and pay off some loans in the process;) I look forward to this coming year with new goals and aspirations and can't wait to see what the next mile marker will look like.

THANK YOU to each of you reading this who have supported the blog or business. I can't tell you how many times it was the words of encouragement from a customer, friend, or reader that kept me going.

Laundromat Family Photoshoot featuring IHOD Accessories.

Ashley of Lemon and Lavender became a fast friend of mine through the blogosphere:) You might remember her shop feature previously on IHOD. She requested for me to do a few hair pieces for her family photo shoot, and I was very excited to help. New Look Reveal + Gulf Shore Support

Thank you thank you thank you to all those who helped vote on the new header! It was pretty much a dead tie between #2 and #3! So, I have incorporated both into the new brand scheme! Also, stay tuned for a new website launch! Lots of fun changes...and the bolder fun colors seem to match my style much better! You can grab the new buttons here.

Also, on a totally different topic....last week I had a reader comment the following:

"I have been reading your blog now for quite some time and really like it. I don't know if it's your style or not , but do you think you could do a post on the oil spill in the gulf? I love your thoughts and opinions, and would love to see your comments on this tragedy." 

I don't consider myself well versed enough to discuss politics here, but I did want to address your comment! think we have all been feeling a little disgusted with the situation on the Gulf... This is a problem I wish would go away considering there are so many important issues being put on hold because of it. Soooooo,Thank you dear reader who make me stop and do some research as to how we can help this situation!! I don't know how I missed this, but Flapperdoodle (who I have featured before) started a shop where all the items are donated to sell and 100%  of the proceeds are being given to OxFam America and National Wildlife Association. You can read the details here! I am hoping this is a small way I can help!
