We can probably all agree that Christmas music has the ability to brighten the gloomiest of days. Right? Well I have a whole playlist that I go through from the start of advent through Christmas day. My family has probably a thousand and three Christmas traditions, and music is a part of that.
The Christmas Albums that Top My List:
1. Bing's White Christmas album will always top the list. I have listened and danced to this album with my sisters for as long as I can remember. It immediately brings Christmas spirit into my heart.
2. Manheim Steamroller - Christmas in the aire and Extroardinaire. My dad would always save this for Christmas morning before all of us would trample downstairs. It was the signal that St. Nicholas had come. I probably will continue this with my own children:)
3. White by Craig Kaelin. I have had this on repeat this week. Incredibly peaceful. I can't get enough.
4. Andy Williams. This tops both Gabe and I's favorites list. The classics always hit home. We even had this as a record. Who doesn't love his rendition of "Its the most wonderful time of the year?"
5. Little Women. I can't even get started on this or my overly sentimental heart will weep. It reminds me of the happy memories of growing up with many sisters, and we all love this one especially at Christmas time.
Honorable Mentions: George Winston, Sarah McLachlan, Chicago (my dad's fave), Charlie Brown Christmas, and Mariah Carey, Amy Grant (my mom's fave)
What about you? Top Christmas album??
Michael Buble, Sufjan Stevens, Josh Groban, Chanticleer, and Handel's Messiah are up there for me, but I have to go with Amy Grant's "Home for Christmas," simply because it reminds me of childhood.
ReplyDeleteAmy Grant was a childhood fave! Must add to the list:)
DeleteElvis Presley is what my mother-in-law always listens to, so now it's what my husband and I listen to as we decorate our tree!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is definitely the Charlie Brown Christmas album. I love the jazz album. The album that reminds me the most of my childhood is the Carpenters, and a newer more recent favourite is the She and Him Christmas album. Thanks for sharing your pics! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat ones! She & Him is on my playlist too!
DeleteI love hearing people's favorite Christmas albums, because they always seem unique to people's childhood memories. The Amy Grant Tennessee Christmas album is the first CD I ever got, and it definitely still holds a special place in my heart. I also grew up on the Peter, Paul & Mary Christmas album and Mannheim Steamrollers, so those are must-listens every year too. (Also: I didn't know about the Little Women CD but I'm sure I'll love it! Childhood memories of that movie too...)
ReplyDeleteMe too Anne! Love your list:)
DeleteMy favorite is Harry Connick Jr's album When My Heart Finds Christmas. James Taylor's A Christmas Album is great, too.
ReplyDeleteI listened to James Taylor growing up and still love his music. Harry....so talented!
DeleteThe White Christmas album is my all time favorite. I love the movie, too! Happy Holidays!!
ReplyDeleteA Charlie Brown Christmas is up there for me and I still watch the cartoon when it comes on during the holidays as well :)

I love Bing Crosby as well! Such a classic. This year I can't stop listening to Tony Bennett's Christmas Classic Album and I also love my Polar Express soundtrack (and I don't even have kids yet!) ;)
ReplyDeleteWe play Polar Express year round! My son's favorite! Some great ones on that album:)
DeleteBing Crosby White Christmas is my favorite! -Heidi
ReplyDeleteAmy Grant's Christmas concert was my first concert! I also love Nat King Cole's Christmas Album. His voice just sounds like the holiday season to me!
ReplyDeleteYou just made me remember a concert long ago with amy in her red dress. It was spectacular:)
DeleteOh my goodness! I LOVE Christmas music. I have so many favorites. The song that really makes me feel warm and fuzzy is Judy Garland's "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas." It just sings to my heart!
ReplyDeleteI, too, ADORE Little Woman. In fact, My 4 year old, Ella, and I are reading this book right now together (an abridged version) and watched the movie recently. She LOVED it!
And my dad, too, played Manheim Steamroller!!!!! That's so funny! Every time I hear it it always reminds me of my wonderful father!
I can't wait till I can read that with V. So special. Must check out Judy Garland's hits!
DeleteAnna, here is a link to the abridged version my daughter and I are reading. It is wonderful. It's simple enough that they can listen and follow the story, but not dumbed down. I highly recommend it. Happy Reading!

Oh my goodness, so excited to see Little Women on there. I have loved that film (and book) for years, and I have to watch it at least once each winter with my sister.
ReplyDeleteI am so on board with your selection, it's not even funny. It's not Christmas until I hear the Manheim Steamrollers. This year I've been listening to a bit of Beach Boys Christmas. Nice and bubbly. Well worth a listen ;)
