True Beauty Files: Heart Patches and Print Mixing

{Scarf: Gap, skirt: Gap (similar), Heart Tank: ON, Shoes: Francescas, Cardi: DIY Patches/Gap (similar), Watch: Aldo, Chain bracelet: DIY. Specs: Nine West (similar)}

Has your style changed since college? As I was going through these back-to-schoolish photos it hit me how much mine has seemingly evolved and changed each year since my Freshman year in college when I would wear sweats almost every day to class. (I would like to just skip over and forget high school style..) I remember trying to figure out what my style was, and would second guess everything I tried on. I think so much of it has to do with where you are at in life, how your self-image is, and what makes you comfortable in your own skin. These factors have changed so much for me over the years, and hence my style has as well. I finally am at a place where I know exactly what is me and what isn't. Gabe reminds me that he fell in love with me during the sweats phase, so that will always be his favorite, but I know he loves when I dress up for our dates as well. I still default to sweats on Monday mornings, but the beauty about putting on your best is that it changes your attitude for the day. I challenge myself to put a little more effort into the way I dress because ultimately its a positive uplift to how I face the day, which affects everyone around me. Now if I had a money tree, I am pretty sure that would affect my wardrobe as well;) Its probably best that I don't have one...

I have been working on a closet overhaul, and re-vamping some cardis. Heart patch pockets met this grey grandpa cardi and together they created a new wonder. Will be sharing a few more up-cycles Thursday:)

How was your weekend? Do tell.
Love, Anna

The True Beauty Files
A lookbook for the modern modeste.
"The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years."

  5. Ha ha! I think we all would like to skip high school style memories... lol!

It is so great to reach the point where you know what you are comfortable wearing. It just makes you feel good.

Love the heart pockets. And mix matched patterns are just plain fun!

  6. In college I dressed like a homeless person to class and like a party girl to the bars. I had zero clothes in between. I love the hearts!

  7. Loved this post and you are too freaking cute. I was just thinking about this the other day as I was shopping and observing some of the girls in our Student Ministry at church.

Back in high school, no one wore anything outside of clothing from American Eagle, Hollister, Abercrombie, Aero and Pac Sun - throw in some pre-awesomeness Old Navy. No one really ever went outside of the box because it wasn't the cool thing to do. I just walked to the beat of my own drum and kind of wore whatever I wanted to. It was sometimes okay and we will skip over the not so okay times too (I figured if you did, I can too!). :) But I was definitely the girl who wore 3-4 inch heels everyday.

The girls in our Student Ministry really make me wish I was way more forward and fearless thinking in regards to my dress in high school. There are some that are so cute and on-trend that it's out of control.

In college, I worked at Buckle for a while and American Eagle. I had to dress like the store brand and that was my shift from my own personal style to the typical high school/college student because I got it all practically 50% off which was awesome. Both Buckle's denim selection and AE's denim still remains one of my favorite places to buy denim. I had a pair of jeans from Buckle that I've had for six years and a pair from AE for five years. Both are still in great condition.

Now back to my original thought...

Over the past two years, I think I have finally nailed down what my personal style is - my expectation for my dress and limits of what may be too far out there for me. The evolution of it all has been neat to see. Flipping back through photos is so fun and a perfect documentation of how it has progressed and at some points digressed. :)

my husband fell for me when i wore sweats/skinny jeans with gilet pashmina and sweatshirt and i think it is still his favourite look although a fancy dress every so often is appreciated :)

  9. So beautiful Anna! I really love this outfit. Sometimes I think Im still figuring out my style. I like so many different looks. But I think I can honestly say I've loved all of your true beauty files outfits. Plus, you inspired me to get bangs again after I regretted getting them last year:)

  17. I agree 100% with you! I feel that I've only just figured out my style and that it's mainly because I'm feeling more confident, for whichever reason. Age? Not sure, but I love it. The main reason that I take daily ootd shots is to push me to make the effort to put a little more thought into my outfits, and I love it!

  18. Ah Craig was just talking to me about how my style has changed since college! He said like back then I was very reserved and kind of plain jane in what I wore. I always picked nice things, but a lot of t-shirts and jeans. He said I would have never bought polka dot pants then. And it's true! Now that I'm older, I'm much more comfortable in picking out things I really like and rocking them with confidence!

  19. Really enjoyed reading this post. Glad to see I'm not the only one to a) be overly attached to sweats, and b) regret some previous wardrobe choices.

I'm all about the revamping - as you know :) - and looking forward to seeing more ideas. The heart pockets are too cute!

  21. That's the cutest cardigan ever. It makes me think: DIY version??

I've definitely changed my style since college. It's amazing how much different your tastes are a few years later. I think it has a lot to do with knowing yourself so much better as you get older. :)

  22. I love the outfit especially the scarf. My style has definitely changed since college. I don't wear tennis shoes anymore unless I'm working out. :) I think I am definitely more put together now with casual clothes although I still like the same things.

  23. Your heart pockets are the cutest thing ever. Must add this to my DIY list ASAP! I definitely have a few cardis that could use a lift so that I love them again... And I love these thoughts about evolving style - I feel like at 28 I'm finally coming into my own with my personal style, and it has a lot to do with where I am in life and increased confidence and happiness and knowledge of who I am. It's exciting!

  26. Ana you don't wanna know how much my style has changed over years, you can make a fast forward 90min movie out of it :)
These muted hues make you sweeter, I guess I have told you this before. You look like you are going to teach the kids at your husband's class how to be fashionable at school everyday (btw do it if you can - it will be fun).
Those heart pockets = beyond lovely

  28. Haha Kevin fell in love with me in my sweat pant stage and swears I am the most beautiful when I am in them! I know exactly what you mean though. I think that through college, I became more confident, but it wasn't till I finally graduated that I think I really went with my confidence 100% fashion-wise. I love it though! I've picked up so many new styles that I just love! I'm still the casual/cutesy girl, just with a little more flare :) I love your sweater! Those heart pockets are so cute!

  30. Getting married and becoming a mother ironically gave me the boost of confidence and appreciation for my own unique beauty that I never had in college. I feel so much more "glamorous" post-baby than I ever did pre. And that confidence had translated well into an evolving, chic wardrobe.
Though I have a really hard time believing yourrrrr bad fashion years were really bad - the Zuniga style seems pretty impeccable to me!

  31. Love this post! I think my style finally changed for the better when I learned to dress for myself, not others. It was a very freeing feeling and I discovered that I "needed" a lot less too.
I love the outfit too! And the heart pockets are just darling! xo

  35. I have a meeting with a personal shopper next week and I can't wait! Having 2 children in 3 years made my wardrobe shrink to some leggings and dresses for this fall, so I'm in desperate need of some great "uniforms" I can wear to escort my almost 2 year old son and 2 months old daughter around town.
    Did I tell you that I can't wait? :)

  41. I hope I get to that point soon. I've recently came to the realization that my style has changed since high school and college, so I have to let go of those pieces I don't wear anymore. That also means I have to slowly start rebuilding a wardrobe as budget permits.
