DIY: Kate Spade Inspired Dot Stud Earrings

I saw these little beauties floating around on pinterest and of course being smitten by all things Kate Spade I wanted to own them. My frugal and creative wheels starting turning (can never turn that off unfortunately) and a simple and easy DIY was born...

Supplies:
Wood Furniture Buttons ($1.47 for a pack of 30!)
Nail Polish color of choice
Earring flatbacks
Super glue
Tape
Clear nail polish (optional)
I used clear nail polish on one set for a shiny finished wood look and left the other unfinished.
Cost: I only had to buy the wooden buttons and earring backs, both which come with several pieces. The rest are items you usually have on hand, so the cost is next to nothing!

Instructions:
1. Cover half of the wooden studs with tape (washi worked great for me).
2. Paint the other half with nail color of choice. (I used a few favorites I had on hand: Essie Tour de Finance & Turquoise and Caicos). Let dry for a few minutes.
3. Remove the tape and attach the flat back earrings to the back of the wooden studs using super glue. Let dry.
These would be fun in almost any color:) Share your results if you try it out!

P.S. Another fantastic colorblock DIY I saw via Green Wedding Shoes for you to check out!

  25. So clever and fun! I love this little tutorial.

Question, do you like the essie nail polish? I think the branding is gorgeous (and colors to boot), but I have a hard time shelling out $8 for a bottle of it. I'm a $1 bottle kinda gal.

So tell me. . . Would you rather spend your entire life with 8 bottles of dollar store stuff or one bottle of Essie?

    Thanks, Friend!

  28. Your really creative, I like the color blocking style! I recently learned a trick; if your ears get irritated with the metal you can paint it with clear nail polish. I want to try making these! :)

  50. Hi - I know this is an old post, but I hope you still see this comment. :) I want to make sure I got the right kind of furniture button. They didn't have the same brand at Hobby Lobby that you used...and I'm just making sure that the button you used is a mushroom shape? Yours looks so flat in your pics, but since furniture button plugs are meant to plug a screw hole, I'm guessing that it's just the pics fooling me and they aren't actually flush on the back, right? Thanks! :)
